I started packing the main compartment of my 32-liter pack and immediately ran into a problem. I started packing clothing and realized there is just not enough room. I decided to use a keep a second bag in the closet next to my go bag. In this bag will be my bug-out clothes, trust me you do not want to spend days in the bush with wet jeans and soaked feet. This way I can dress before leaving and leave the clothes bag behind.
In the bag are:
- Mammot Gore-Tex boots. Fun fact I had a brand-new pair of Rocky Gore-Tex boots leak when new so it might be a good idea to test them before using.
- North Face hiking pants. There are many brands all with high tech fabric that breathes and dries fast.
- Simms solar shirt. This is new to me; the idea is to leave the sunscreen and short sleeve shirt behind. This provides sun protection.
- Helly Hason full zip hooded jacket again made with light weight material.
- Alpha Industries weatherproof poncho. I picked this up last winter during a sale, retails for $240 but I purchased it for $40.
I grew up poor and froze my ass off for years with junk outdoor clothing from Kmart while experiencing hypothermia up close and personal. Quality clothing for long-haul is priceless.
