I joined the Gold Prospector Association of America (GPAA) for access to legal places to prospect for gold. Part of the current promo was a bag of paydirt.
Gold paydirt is anything from gold ore to Bearing Sea beach sand. They add known gold-bearing materials from their claim and seed it with some real gold so the return on investment is never 100%, but it is meant for practice and amusement. There is always the chance the mined material might contain more, like in the lottery.
Turns out my mine contained a real .88 gram gold nugget, surprisingly heavy for its size. I plugged the weight into a gold calculator, and the little nugget is worth $104 at current gold prices.
