There are a lot of homemade fire starters to try on YouTube. They work great but a little bulky for the pack. I decided to purchase a complete kit, the kit will go into the front left pocket. I also decided not to bring a camp propane stove. Since this is a collapse in government services go bag, propane will be only temporarily available if at all. I also included a photo of the wood stove I choose. It operates on sticks and branches or an endless supply of fuel. The one I chose is from a reputable company and should last but there are similar models for a lot less. It folds flat and will sit in the back part of bag reserved for laptop.
