When it was fun to be a kid

Remember fun?

I recently joined Facebook and received a news flash from Rep Watro on the re-opening of the YMCA building. My first reaction was why not use the facility for fun, give the youth a reason to look forward to a Friday night in Hazleton that didn't include a video game.

The above photo is of my old junior high school, Grebey, I think it was around 1967.

The weekend started off on Friday night with a snack at Coney Island for a hot dog and fountain coke. Afterwards it was time to meet with friends and head to the YMCA, sporting the latest bell bottoms. Once there all they guys would support the wall while the girls danced to Steppenwolf. After, everyone went to thier favorite restaurant, all within walking distance.

Saturday had endless possibilities, movie at the Feley complete with penny candy from Murff's newsstand, maybe a cherry coke from the basement of the Leader after checking out the latest LP's. The afternoon was usually reserved for Skateland right next to Rep Watro's office.

Wendsday night all of downtown Hazleton was open complete with useful and fun stores, during Christmas it was magical, I could go on. These will be the memories that I take with me when I leave McAdoo.
