English is national language

It’s about time! First I am not a bigot, the old useless pastey white members of McAdoo Borough Council have had long enough, time for fresh blood.

My grandparents came to America from Germany and settled in a small German community in SW Philadelphia. English was spoken until they didn't want me to hear the conversation then they used the German language. English was always spoken in public.

I asked my Grandmother why not just speak in German? She said you were unable to purchase a loaf of bread unless you ask for it in English. There were no tax money spent on English and German signs and lables. Our government understood back then that there was a limited supply of tax dollars and if unhappy you were more than welcome to take another ship back home.

The cost and pressure to assimilate into the current norms of society were placed on the future citizen and not the tax payers. There were no German signs or lables, you were required to learn the history and take a test and then pledge your allegiance to your new home. My grandfather worked 40+ years for General Electric as an engineer and died months before retirement so not only did he never take one penny in tax dollars he left behind a lifetime of social security payments in the pot.

I still remeber pulling a 10,000 mark German bill from the drawer and asked her what this was and her reply was the money became worthless and you needed 10,000 grand just to purchase a loaf of bread. Something to consider before badmouthing DOGE.
