Ellis Island

I had an interesting evening, after adding a blog entry that mentioned Ellis Island I decided to look up the web site, link listed below. My family never talked about Germany mainly because of the war. I do remeber my father saying something about being forced to attend a Hitler youth rally and they caught the last boat out of Germany before the border was closed.

What I found while looking up my grandparents was my father's entry, he was 8. I thought Ellis was just for imagration, guess I was wrong. The ship manifest was 1938 and WW2 started 1939. Interesting to think had my father missed the boat I would have never been born. If interested my father's name was Federick, grandfather was Federich and grandmother was Dora.

After viewing a recent photo of Ellis it's obious they kept up the property so why not reopen, might help the sting of de-porting illegals by offering a place they can associate with an American citizenship.
